How the Constitution works

List some of the rights that are protected by the Constitution, and tell why these rights are important to you how you might use them.

There are a variety of rights that are protected by the constitution.

These rights cover everything from basic human rights to the rights of the accused. Freedom of speech is one of our constitutional rights. If we did not have freedom of speech Americans could not say what they want. We also have the right to bear arms. That means we can have guns in our house for protection against criminals. Since our rights are written in the Constitution, the government cannot take those rights away from the people. The government must follow the Constitution to be democratic. This is called rule of law. The constitution helps us live in the world.

Some of the other rights that are protected by the constitution are the the right to have a jury trial and the right to be defended by a lawyer. The police must respect your constitutional rights or their case will not be successful because they failed to follow an important principle of democracy known as rule of law. Each person is promised due process of law. One person who was not given due process was Rodney King. He was beaten by police without a fair trial. Rodney King sued the police for the violation of his rights.

In the constitution it states that all people 18 and older have the right to vote. This right is a very important one because it gives you the power to pick who you feel is right for the job. If we did not have this right it would mean that the people will not have a say in who would be right for the position. If the people did not have the right to vote and pick their leader they would not be very happy for the reason that they would not have a say in who is going to run their life.

These are just three of the rights protected by our constitution. The right to vote is important to me because I would like to have a part in deciding who will be the leader. The right of free speech is important because I like to voice my opinion. Last but not least, freedom of religion is very important because I like to go to church.

One of the rights that are protected by the constitution is the right to bear arms. If we did not have this right I would not be able to have any guns. One of the right that I feel that is important and that is also protected by the constitution is freedom of assembly so we can get together and do anything we want that does not put anyone in danger.
