Violence is definitely a problem in today's world. Foreign countries are at war, gang wars are not uncommon, and people fight over every little thing. Most of this violence is unnecessary. A person really does not have to kill someone just because they were looked at the wrong way. People need to have self-discipline and learn to control their feelings instead of lashing out at everyone. Usually, there is a much better way than fighting to solve a problem. Don't get me wrong, though. I do not think we will eliminate violence completely - that would be impossible. Sometimes, other people will not listen to reason and one must fight to stop them. For example, think what would have happened if we had not fought Hitler. If we had just stepped back and said, "We can't fight, violence isn't the answer", he would have taken over the world, and life as we know it would be totally different. However, much of the violence in today's society is in fact unnecessary. If people would just make a commitment and work together to stop it, the world could be a more peaceful place. -- Emily B.
Here is a topic we'd like to write about. Abortion is a very controversial issue. It should be the choice of the individual woman whether or not to have an abortion. There should not be a law that says what one can or cannot do in this situation. It might be wrong to take a life away before it has really begun, but it could be even worse for the child to go through life not feeling loved or that they were not wanted. However, if you are going to have an abortion, it should be done early in the pregnancy, before the fetus has really developed. A person should also have a very good reason, such as being too young to take care of it, if it was known that the baby was going to be deformed and have little chance for living, or if in the case of rape.

Now to the Bulls. I love the Bulls, and they just won their fourth ever NBA Championship. They were led by none other than my favorite player on my favorite team in my favorite sport, the one and only Michael Jordan. I have bout fifteen Michael Jordan posters, all of his jerseys, a pair of his shoes, and a video called "Michael Jordan: Above and Beyond". My favorite football team, the Redskins, are having a pretty good season so far. I just hope they can keep it that way.
The election is coming and the boring debates are taking place. I do not know who I want to win the election, but I do know who I do not want to win, and that is Ross Perot. So that leaves Bill Clinton and Bob Dole. I am pretty sure that Bill Clinton will win reelection. Bob Dole will be out of a job, so he is going to lose some money, but that is his fault for resigning from the Senate so early. The poll says Clinton is up in votes, but anything can happen in the long run. --Shaun R.
