Malcolm X
- He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19, 1925
- His real name is Malcolm Little
- His father was a Baptist minister
- His family moved to Lansing, Michigan, and when he was six, his
father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan
- His mother suffered a nervous breakdown, and Malcolm and his seven
siblings were taken by the Welfare Department
- After 8th grade, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he became
involved in criminal activity
- He educated himself in jail and learned more about the Black Muslims
- He was released in 1952
- He married Betty Shabazz in 1958, and they had six daughters
- Malcolm became the Nation of Islam's most prominent spokesperson
- In 1964, he formed a black nationalist group called the Organization
of Afro-American Unity, or OAAU
- In the same year, he adopted the Arabic name El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz
- On February 21, 1965, while speaking at an OAAU rally in New
York City, he was assassinated by men allegedly connected with the Black Muslims
